Outreach Activities

Commercial Street Inn This is a shelter owned by Inn Vision, and is specifically for women and their children. We organize a monthly meal. Church volunteers prepare the meal and serve the meal at the Commercial Street Inn.

Canned food collection for the San Jose Family Shelter This is a temporary shelter for families, which means, men, women and their children. A family is given a room with beds and dresser drawers. The families are allow to stay for about 6 months while they look for a job and save money for a down payment on a rental. There is a community kitchen on the premises which residents of the shelter take turns assisting at, and the collection of canned goods goes to this kitchen, or sometimes to help a family get started in a new place.

The above two projects have been our mainstay and continuing efforts for about 10 years.  During the past year, we have held an auction and most recently, the Charitable Gift Giving Fair.  The Fair raised money for the following organizations:  The Ethelou Talbert Home for Girls in the Philippines, the Flying doctors, the Santa Clara County Children's Center, Heifer Project, Habitat for Humanity, Second Harvest, Seva Foundation, and UMC World Service.

United Methodist Women (UMW) Supports the San Jose Family Shelter For the past few years, the UMW has taken portion of the money taken in from Bazaars, yard sales and pledges and made a gift of it to deserving families who have temporarily lived at the San Jose Family Shelter.
