God’s love is not coercive, but inviting, accepting, forgiving.  God’s grace is ever-present and enables us to believe in the Lordship of Jesus Christ – to accept God’s love as revealed in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus – and to live with assurance, joy and purpose through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Evergreen Valley UMC is a welcoming congregation that adheres to the United Methodist motto: “Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors.”

While we hold to an orthodox Trinitarian theology, grounded in a Wesleyan understanding of God’s three-fold demonstration of grace through Jesus Christ – we welcome those who are journeying in their faith toward a deeper and clearer understanding of who God is and what it means to be a Christian

The life of faith is a challenging one – which is best lived out in a community where questions are welcomed and humility and grace are generously supplied.  Here you will find the Gospel preached and taught with conviction, authority and passion – but you will also find compassion, understanding and an openness to questions about faith and doctrine, scriptures and beliefs.  In the many dimensions of our life together as disciples we seek to learn from one another, grow in our faithfulness to God and be shaped more and more into the image of Jesus Christ.

It takes a community to raise a disciple.

Faithful discipleship is the goal of all believers – yet it is not a solitary occupation, but learned and experienced in a supportive, loving community.  Balancing the interior life of faith and devotion – through prayer, study and spiritual disciplines - with exterior expressions of faith by participation in worship, and serving others inside the church and in the community – is our goal as a congregation.

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the

Garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” Genesis 2:15

Frances Sunae Cho

Lead Pastor

Sunae is Korean-American, born in Seoul, Korea, and immigrating to the United States with her family at the age of 15.  Raised in San Jose, she always refers to it as her home.  While she attended Mt. Pleasant High School, the family lived in South San Jose.   Coming to serve at Evergreen Valley is very special; it is almost like ‘coming home’.

Sunae graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  She worked as a Registered Nurse at Kaiser Santa Clara (1988 – 1997) and Valley Medical Center (1997 – 2004).

Chris Suba

Youth Ministry Director

My name is Christian Suba and I am excited to become a part of Evergreen Valley United Methodist Church as the director of the youth program! My three siblings and I were born here in San Jose and have spent the majority of our lives just a few blocks away from this church. So being a part of a community that works to strengthen the values and integrity of our neighborhood is a very exciting prospect for me. I love new experiences which have culminated in what I call a "hobby of taking up hobbies." As such, I am eager to engage with the youth in a plethora of things that I love, while in turn learning new things from them.

Megan Vipond

Children's Ministry Director

I grew up in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, with my parents Mick and Darla and my two brothers. Charlie is two years older than me, and Ben is two years younger. There were also a great many cats, and a dog named Chip. I was practically raised at Sunnybrook Community Church, where I spent a lot of time working with the drama team, as well as volunteering for toddler Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

I earned my Bachelor's Degree at Northwestern College in Orange City, originally pursuing a degree in Youth Ministry, but switching my major to Theatre in my Sophomore year. I have a great love and passion for theatre, and am excited about the ways it can transform lives and spread knowledge and understanding. Once I graduated from Northwestern, I moved to Minnesota for a year, to get used to adult life.

Charles Granadosin Sr.

Music Director

Charles is the Music Director of Evergreen United Methodist Church since 2002. He directs the Chancel Choir who sings during worship every Sunday. Twice a year, the Chancel Choir performs Cantatas on Christmas and Easter.  Before EVUMC, he directed Valley Faith United Methodist Church Chancel Choir for 7 years.

Charles is a seasoned dynamic and very engaging choir director.  His presence commands strength and spellbinding style of conducting that anyone will be instantly drawn to sing whether they can or not.  His training is attributed to his family’s love of music. His late father was Bishop Paul Locke Granadosin and his mother, Socorro Granadosin, is a mezzo soprano opera singer and a choir director which inspired Charles and his five brothers to sing in church wherever their parents would be serving.

Eulene Granadosin

Pianist, Organist, Praise & Worship Director

Eulene is the accompanist of Evergreen United Methodist Church since 2002.  She works closely with the Pastor and the Music Director in the selection of hymns, songs, and takes care of the overall music experience of the congregation.  She accompanies the Chancel Choir as well as directing the Praise and Worship Band every Sunday.

Eulene is an accomplished church musician with more than four decades of experience in church music.  She was very fortunate to have found a piano professor, Virgilio Sajie as her very first piano teacher who was the student of the student of Beethoven. A solfeggio expert, she started playing in church at the age of 12 and since then has been serving as accompanist.  She is a well sought accompanist for choral groups, churches, schools, and universities, accompanied many choirs in national singing competitions and a favorite recital accompanist of voice students.  For 14 years, she had the privilege to work with well- known musicians in the Philippines being the organist/pianist of Central United Methodist Church, the largest church in the Philippines before coming to the United States.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree in the Philippines and received her training in organ, piano, and church music at Harris Memorial College in Manila,Philippines, attended two conservatories of music at Philippine Women’s University and Santa Isabel University in Manila, Philippines.
